In 1919 the Department of Anatomy and Department of Histology and
Embriology were founded as separate organizational units holding
2 separate courses: "Systematic and Topographic Anatomy of Domestic
Animals" at the Department of Anatomy and "Histology and Embriology
of Domestic Animals" at the Department of Histology and Embriology.
In 1956, those two departments were integrated into a single one,
and soon after, the courses were also integrated under a title
"Anatomy, Histology and Embriology". In the course of time several
changes were introduced into teaching of this
subject. From 1970-1980s the subject material was covered by two
exams "Anatomy I" and "Anatomy II, Histology and Embriology". Furthermore,
another subject called "Applied Anatomy" was introduced and taught
in 5th semester of undergraduate studies. Nowadays, the course
"Anatomy, Histology and Embriology" has been taught in the first
2 years of undergraduate studies, while the optional course "Applied
Anatomy" has been introduced in 4th and 5th semester. Postgraduate
courses in anatomy, histology and embriology have been held at the
Department as well, both as a part of the studies at the Department,
and as a part of the postgraduate studies at other departments of the
Veterinary faculty. For teaching purposes, manuals of either Croatian
authors or the translations of foreign editions have been used.
Research in the areas of macro and micro anatomy has been carried
out as well as tutorship for M.Sc. and doctoral candidates. At the
Department, expertises in the field of morphology and the technology
of foodstuffs of animal origin have been made as well.
