Along with foundation of the Veterinary College in 1919 the Surgery Clinic
was established.
The first head and professor of the Veterinary Faculty was Eugen Podaubsky.
Under his administration the Polyclinic was established. The back buildings
of the former Shoeing School in Savska Street in Zagreb were renovated for
the Surgery and Internal Clinic. In 1959, the Clinic moved into the new
buildings in Heinzelova Street. The new premises offered opportunities for
the Clinic to be organized and equipped in line with contemporary principles
of veterinary clinics worldwide. The clinical part consists of two aseptic
and operating rooms for big and small animals and a spacious theatre in
which most of routine work is performed.
In 1976, the Clinic changed the name into "Clinic for Surgery, Orthopedics
and Ophthalmology". The subject is taught in 7th, 8th and 9th smester of
undergraduate studies.
Postgraduate studies include two specialist studies and one scientific.
The Clinic is not engaged only in education but also in scientific work and
experiments. All surgical, orthopedic and ophthalmologic illnesses are
successfully treated and medicaments are tested. The Clinic also offers
consluting in construction of animal housing with aim of health protection,
locomotive system in particular.
